Seattle/King, Pierce, Snohomish Sales Tax Rate Increase on 04/01/2017

"Effective April 1, 2017, sales and use tax within the City of Seattle will increase one-half of one percent (.005). The tax will be used for transportation services." -- Washington DOR (This transit tax increase applies to cities in Snohomish, King, and Pierce counties).

To update the Sales Tax: Make the change before creating any invoices or sales receipts dated 4/1/17 or later.

Washington State B&O tax - Subcontractor Expense?

Everyone agrees that Washington State's business and occupation tax (assesed on gross sales) is onerous.
But can you reduce your gross sales by the amount paid to subcontractors (who also pay B&O)?

Nope. Really NO. Don't do that.

Isn't that double-taxation? Yes, sort of (the state calls it pyramiding).

I talked to a really helpful rep at the WA DOR the other day, and she did point out that because of the $46k small business exemption, most subs won't have to pay much, if any B&O tax, but still......
